Scott Troeller joined alternative investment manager BlueMountain Capital Management on Monday as portfolio manager and head of private infrastructure investing.
In this new position, Mr. Troeller will source, evaluate and execute private deals with an initial focus on energy, environmental and telecommunications infrastructure projects in North America, confirmed Stephen Siderow, partner, co-founder and co-president, in an email.
BlueMountain previously has invested in a few private infrastructure deals, but Mr. Troeller is the firm's first senior investment executive exclusively focused on the asset class, Mr. Siderow said.
Mr. Troeller will build out his team with the hire of a couple of new executives and will formally launch a new private infrastructure strategy for the company, Mr. Siderow added.
Mr. Troeller was a managing director focused on private equity investments at alternative money manager Fir Tree Partners and held the same title at Titan Grove Holdings, an affiliated firm.
Information about Mr. Troeller's replacement at Fir Tree/Titan Grove could not be learned.
BlueMountain's addition of a private infrastructure strategy is in line with one of the firm's core objectives to "anticipate major change and capitalize on it," Mr. Siderow said, as the firm did within the financial services industry in the decade after the financial crisis.
BlueMountain manages about $20 billion in alternative and traditional investment strategies and Fir Tree manages about $8 billion in distressed debt hedge fund and private equity strategies.
