Masato Degawa was named senior adviser, Japan, for Affiliated Managers Group's newly established Tokyo office, according to an AMG news release.
The appointment is effective immediately, a spokesman said.
Mr. Degawa will provide "consulting services to AMG's global institutional distribution team" and advice on the firm's distribution and corporate strategy, the release said. He will report to Hugh Cutler, executive vice president and head of global distribution.
In September 2017, Mr. Degawa was named a senior adviser for Melbourne-based Yarra Capital Management, and a spokesman for Yarra said he will continue in that non-executive, consulting role after he begins working with AMG.
The Yarra spokesman said there's no overlap between the strategies Yarra focuses on and the strategies offered by AMG's affiliates. The AMG spokesman declined to comment on the dual roles.
Mr. Cutler, in the AMG news release, noted the growing appetite among Japanese investors for the kind of "high-conviction, differentiated alpha strategies" that AMG's affiliates offer.
