Gijs Koning was named managing director and head of portfolio management and operations at Van Eck Europe, a spokeswoman said.
Mr. Koning is responsible for portfolio management, product development, tax and accounting.
The role is new. Van Eck Europe is the name of the entity created following the integration of Dutch ETF provider Think ETFs, which was acquired by Van Eck Associates last month. Mr. Koning was co-founder of Think ETFs.
"We see increasing interest in exchange-traded funds from private and institutional investors in Europe, which is why reinforcing our European position is a logical step to meeting the higher demand in a growth market. (Mr.) Koning's expertise will enable us to further expand our product offering and offer our clients well-designed ETF products," CEO Jan van Eck said in the news release.
Van Eck has $48 billion in assets under management.
