Tom Fischer, investment officer on the real estate team at the University of California Regents, Berkeley, is leaving on July 13, Mr. Fischer confirmed.
Mr. Fischer will be joining real estate operating company J.B. Matteson as senior vice president and director of investments. He had worked at the firm a decade ago.
The UC Regents board oversees the university system's $66.6 billion pension fund and $11.5 billion endowment. It has about $4 billion total in real estate. Mr. Fischer is one of three real estate professionals there.
"The UC was unusual in my professional career," Mr. Fischer said. "I've always worked for operators and investors."
Mr. Fischer said his duties would be assumed by other members of the investment staff.
This is the second departure from the UC's investment office in two months. Scott Chan, a former senior managing director, will join the $224.9 billion California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento, as deputy CIO on Aug. 1.
Jagdeep Bachher, chief investment officer, and Arthur Guimaraes, chief operating officer, could not be reached for comment.
