Through Thursday, Vanguard and BlackRock led the asset manager universe in institutional hires in 2018, according to data collected by Pensions & Investments. Alternatives shops TPG, Landmark and Blackstone rounded out the top five asset manager hires, year-to-date.
Legal & General Investment Management and Blackstone led the universe in hires by mandate size with dollar values of $5.7 billion and $5.6 billion, respectively. LGIM's hire was a single equity mandate from a collective British public pension fund. Blackstone's mandates were spread over 12 hires, mostly U.S. public pension plans and across several of the manager's business lines.
