TowerBrook Capital Partners closed two funds at a total of $5.3 billion, the company announced in a news release Monday.
The firm held first and final closes for both funds — $4.25 billion for buyout fund TowerBrook Investors V and $1.05 billion for structured investment fund TowerBrook Structured Opportunities II. Both funds closed at their hard caps after being launched in January this year.
TowerBrook V will make "proprietary, control-oriented investments," while TSO II will invest in "attractive not-for-control opportunities generated by TowerBrook's activity," the news release said.
TowerBrook Investors IV closed at $3.5 billion in February 2013, while TSO I closed at over $800 million in November 2015.
Investors in TowerBrook Investors V include the $129.1 billion Washington State Investment Board, Olympia; $71.6 billion Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, Boston; and $18.8 billion Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, Topeka.
Investors in TSO II include the $349.7 billion California Public Employees' Retirement System, Sacramento; and MassPRIM.
A spokesman for TowerBrook declined to comment beyond what was in the release.
