Al Denholm joined Aviva Investors as chief investment officer for its new solutions unit, said a spokesman.
The position is new, and Mr. Denholm is based in London.
Reporting to CEO Euan Munro, Mr. Denholm leads a dedicated business focused on creating specific strategies for global clients' needs. The unit works across each business line to help clients manage and "develop distinctive solutions," added the spokesman in an email.
The unit encompasses the existing businesses of investment solutions, responsible investment, securities finance, investment risk and portfolio construction, and liability-driven investing, he added. Executives will also work closely with the investment teams across equities, fixed income, multiasset and real assets.
"The solutions function will bring together our broad capabilities to respond to the changing needs of our clients," said Mr. Munro in a news release.
Aviva Investors has £350 billion ($469.1 billion) in assets under management.
Mr. Denholm was CEO at Prudential Portfolio Management Group. A spokesman for Prudential said PPMG Ltd. and Prudential Capital Ltd. came together under CIO Jonathan Daniels following the announcement of the merger between M&G Investments and Prudential.
