Chavon Sutton was named director of diversity and inclusion for the New York City comptroller's Bureau of Asset Management, which handles investments for the $194 billion New York City Retirement Systems.
The position is new, said a news release issued Thursday by Comptroller Scott Stringer, fiduciary for the five city pension funds within the retirement systems.
Ms. Sutton will support efforts "to expand engagement with and utilization of minority- and women-owned business enterprises and emerging manager firms for the New York City pension funds," the news release said.
According to the news release, Ms. Sutton was most recently an independent adviser at Momentum Advisors, whose website said the firm has more than $75 million in assets under management and more than $450 million in retirement assets under advisement.
Officials at Momentum and the comptroller's office didn't return requests for comment by press time.
