Philippe El-Asmar joined J.P. Morgan Asset Management in Hong Kong as head of Asia beta strategies, according to a company news release Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for JPMAM said Mr. El-Asmar took up the new position at the firm in late 2017.
Mr. El-Asmar came to J.P. Morgan Asset Management from Amareos, a financial news analytics firm he co-founded that uses artificial intelligence to evaluate market sentiment, the news release said.
The news release said Mr. El-Asmar is responsible for accelerating the expansion of the firm's beta strategies business, including strategic and alternative beta strategies, factor-based investing and exchange-traded funds.
The news release said Mr. El-Asmar's early work will focus on bringing J.P. Morgan Asset Management's existing global strategies to Asia-based clients. Longer term, he'll "oversee development of the firm's regional ETF product strategy and design," it said.
