James Keith "JK" Brown was named a senior managing director at Coatue Management, a news release said.
He replaced Walter Lee, who is leaving the firm. It could not be learned why Mr. Lee left or what his plans are.
Mr. Brown will join a team that oversees and manages the company's strategic direction, financial goals and engagement with clients. He will report to Coatue founder and CEO Philippe Laffont.
A Coatue spokesman declined to comment beyond what was in the news release.
Mr. Brown was a senior managing director at Och-Ziff Capital Management. His responsibilities were assumed by other members of the investor relations team since he left the firm on June 30, 2017, according to sources.
Coatue Management manages $16 billion in assets.
