Marlene Puffer was named CEO of the C$16 billion ($12.7 billion) Canadian National Railway Pension Plan, Montreal, said Patrick Waldron, CN spokesman.
She will replace Russell Hiscock, who will retire at the end of this month.
Ms. Puffer was a partner at private equity and hedge fund manager Alignvest Management. Officials at Alignvest could not be reached for information on her replacement.
