United Technologies Corp., Farmington, Conn., expects to make total contributions of about $100 million to its global pension plans in 2018, according to its 10-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In 2017, the company made $1.9 billion in cash contributions to its U.S. pension plans and contributed $212 million to its international defined benefit plans.
UTC's global pension assets totaled $35.69 billion and liabilities totaled $37 billion as of Dec. 31, for a funding ratio of 96.5%. The 10-K did not break out U.S. vs. international assets. The discount rate used was 3.4% in 2017 vs. 3.8% in 2016.
According to Pensions & Investments' data, the company had $26.64 billion in U.S. pension plan assets as of Sept. 30, with an asset allocation of 49% U.S. fixed income, 17% global equities, 9% other, 7% U.S. equities, 6% international equities, 6% real estate, 5% private equity and 1% cash.
