Ms. Liu comes to Carlyle from Goldman Sachs Group in Hong Kong, where she served as a managing director of the principal investment area, making private equity investments with the firm's proprietary funds. A Goldman Sachs spokeswoman declined to say if Ms. Liu would be replaced.
Ms. Liu couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
The Carlyle release said the firm has invested more than $7.5 billion in more than 90 transactions in China since establishing a presence in Asia in 1998.
