Dante Allen was named executive director of California's Achieving a Better Life Experience plan, said Shawn Brouwer, deputy communications director for California Treasurer John Chiang, whose office oversees the plan.
Mr. Allen was previously senior communications leader in the California Department of Public Health's Office of Health Equity. He replaces Christina Elliott, who left the board in 2017 to join the $221.7 billion California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento, as assistant director for the retirement readiness division, said Michael Sicilia, CalSTRS spokesman, in an email.
Stanley Zeto, deputy executive director of the Scholarshare Investment Board, which sets investment policies and oversees all activities of the state's 529 college investment plan, has been acting executive director. Further information was not immediately available.
The CalABLE plan is a tax-free savings account for people with disabilities created by the California Legislature in 2015 and is modeled on 529 plans. The plan's launch is still pending the hiring of a third-party administrator for the plan.
