Japan’s GPIF looking for research firms

Government Pension Investment Fund, Tokyo, is searching for research firms to provide information on investment strategy, confirmed a spokeswoman for the pension fund.

The 156.8 trillion ($1.4 trillion) pension fund wants institutions to provide information that is useful for formulating investment strategies, such as analysis of financial markets, economic policies, and political or geopolitical risks, added a post on its official Twitter account.

The search is for research firms to begin working with GPIF in April, added the spokeswoman. Contracts run through March 31, 2020, said a document posted on GPIF's website.

The spokeswoman said GPIF called for the same sort of RFP last July, hiring Montrose Associates in the U.K. and BCA Research in Canada for the roles. These contracts expire in March. It could not be learned by press time if the firms can rebid.

Proposals are due Jan. 31. A hiring date was not provided.
