The Ventura County (Calif.) Employees' Retirement Association is working with a skeleton crew as wildfires rage in the area, said Linda Webb, retirement administrator of the $5.3 billion pension fund.
A trustee lost his home and several staff members had to evacuate their homes or assist family members who have been affected, she said.
Staff members who did not have to evacuate their homes are currently working at the office. "We have a lot of (pension fund) members who have been affected, and we want to serve them as best we can," Ms. Webb said.
At its closest point, the pension fund office was about a mile away from where the fires were being fought, Ms. Webb said.
Over the past day, air quality around the office has been poor, she added.
The retirement system has business and disability benefit meetings on Dec. 11 that it does not anticipate having to reschedule.
