Harshal Shah was named a senior vice president in Callan's private equity research group in San Francisco, confirmed spokeswoman Elizabeth Anathan.
The position is new. He will report to Gary Robertson, senior vice president and manager of the consultant's private equity research group.
Mr. Shah joins Callan from the California Public Employees' Retirements System, Sacramento, where he was a private equity portfolio manager.
CalPERS spokeswoman Megan White said in an email that Mr. Shah had worked at CalPERS for five years.
CalPERS has had some difficulty filling all of its private equity investment positions and there are three vacancies among the 26-person private equity investment staff, Ms. White said.
CalPERS has approximately $26 billion of its $344.4 billion in assets invested in private equity funds.
