The American Investment Council is shining a spotlight on the private equity industry's efforts to improve gender diversity, using a video featuring longtime private equity investment executive Susan Long McAndrews.
Ms. McAndrews is a partner in the San Francisco office of alternative investment firm Pantheon Ventures LLP.
The video case study — available on YouTube from the Washington-based private equity trade and lobbying group — features Ms. McAndrews, who is head of the U.S. primary investment team at Pantheon, and highlights industry efforts to hire more women.
At Pantheon, six of the firm's 28 partners and 43% of the firm's global staff are women, the video showed.
In the video, Ms. McAndrews points to a joint effort started in 2016 by the National Association of Investment Companies and the American Investment Council to increase the number of women in private equity. At the time, just 10% of senior private equity executives were female, according to a joint news release at the time.
The two groups' Private Equity Women's Initiative is a framework "to really help some of these private equity firms that saw the problem but couldn't figure out how to solve it," Ms. McAndrews said in the video.
