Brian H. Pellegrino was named chief investment officer for the Georgia Tech Foundation Inc., Atlanta, said Al Trujillo, president and chief operating officer of the Georgia Tech Foundation.
Mr. Pellegrino will start in early January and replace Jim Taylor, who retired as CIO in June. Jonathan Karcsh has served as interim CIO. He will return to his position as the investment director.
Mr. Pellegrino will oversee Georgia Tech Foundation's $1.6 billion endowment. He will report to Mr. Trujillo.
Mr. Pellegrino was CIO of the $35 billion pension portfolio at United Parcel Services Inc., Atlanta. UPS spokesman Glenn A. Zaccara confirmed that Mr. Pellegrino will be leaving tin January and that "a successor for this role has been identified from within the company." He declined to disclose further details.
Executive recruiting firm Prince Houston Group assisted with the search, Mr. Trujillo confirmed.
