Ramu Thiagarajan was named global head of fixed income, cash and currency research, and chairman of the technical committee at State Street Global Advisors, spokesman Brendan Paul said.
The position is new. Mr. Thiagarajan will lead the firm's fundamental and quantitative research efforts for active, indexing and smart beta fixed-income, cash and currency strategies. He will also establish research agendas, help develop new investment strategies, and evaluate and enhance investment processes.
As technical committee chairman, Mr. Thiagarajan will oversee all quant research performed throughout the organization and will work closely with the equity, alternative and multiasset solutions investment teams to enhance the company's research and investment processes. He will report directly to Matthew Steinaway, senior managing director and senior managing director and chief investment officer of global fixed income, cash and currency.
Mr. Thiagarajan was global head of fixed-income quant research at AllianceBernstein. It could not be learned whether he was replaced; AllianceBernstein spokesman Jonathan Freedman could not be reached for comment.
SSGA had $2.67 trillion in assets under management as of Sept. 30.
