Peter Driscoll was named director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's office of compliance inspections and examinations on Thursday.
Mr. Driscoll has served as acting director since January, following the departure of Marc Wyatt, who is now head of global trading for T. Rowe Price. Mr. Wyatt co-founded OCIE's private fund unit.
OCIE conducts the SEC's national examination program for registered investment advisers, investment companies, broker-dealers, self-regulatory organizations and transfer agents, among others.
SEC Chairman Jay Clayton said in a statement that Mr. Driscoll "has been an exceptional leader" since taking over as acting director, including advancing the use of technology.
Mr. Driscoll has held several SEC roles, including attorney, examiner and manager, and was the first chief risk and strategy officer.
