The median third quarter net return of MSCI's InvestorForce Plan Universes was 3.11%, 41 basis points ahead of the second quarter's 2.7% return.
Over the trailing one-, three-, and five-year periods, the net median plan returns were 11%, 5.9% and 7.6%, respectively.
Endowments and foundations led universe subsets with a 3.3% net return for the quarter. Health-care systems and charities specifically did well within endowments and foundations as both were up 3.4% over the quarter. Over the trailing one-year period, endowments were tops at 12.4%.
MSCI's InvestorForce Plan Universes include more than 2,300 plans representing more than $3 trillion in assets.
