Rob Horsnall was named head of direct private equity at USS Investment Management, the in-house manager for the £60 billion ($79.7 billion) Universities Superannuation Scheme, Liverpool, England.
The position is new and reflects a continuing shift toward direct investments, said a news release by USS IM.
Mr. Horsnall, who was a senior investment manager on the private markets team, has led a number of equity and debt deals for USS, said the release.
The firm also hired three senior members to its private markets team. Bob Hewson was named investment manager, private equity, where he focuses on originating, executing and managing direct private equity investments. He was a director at private equity firm Alchemy Partners.
Craig McAllister was named investment manager, real assets. He was at infrastructure manager Whitehelm Capital, and joined USS earlier this year. Further details could not be learned.
Rob Brindley was named investment manager, private credit and special situations. He was head of strategic asset finance, London, at Commerzbank.
The private markets group runs £15 billion across private equity, real assets, real estate, private credit and special situations investments.
Spokesmen for USS, Whitehelm and Alchemy could not be reached for comment.
