What's in a name? For financial technology startups, it might be just a click away.
Vested Ventures, a New York-based venture capital firm investing in financial and technology sector startups, has created the Fintech Name Generator, a web-based program that allows individuals to select a type of business, click an icon and get the computer-generated name.
"We had this kind of wacky idea," CEO Eric Hazard said. "What if we created an interface to come up with these names?"
The name generator, populated with names created by Mr. Hazard, Dan Simon, CEO of parent company Vested, and Vested Ventures' developmental team, has created a lot of social media buzz since it debuted the week of Sept. 11 at the FinovateFall 2017 conference in New York, Mr. Hazard said.
"We do this because it's fun and we're in the industry," Mr. Hazard said. "But we've gotten a fair number of people saying, 'where was this when we needed a name?' "
He said he hasn't heard of anyone actually using the generator to name their startup, "but I think someone will."
The generator is available at fintechname generator.com.
