University of Pennsylvania's endowment returns 14.3%

University of Pennsylvania's endowment returned 14.3% for the fiscal year ended June 30, said Amanda Mott, spokeswoman for the Philadelphia-based school.

The fiscal-year return outperformed the benchmark by 2.6 percentage points. Endowment assets totaled $12.2 billion as of June 30, up 14% from the year before. The endowment returned -1.4% in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016.

The university does not break out returns by individual asset class, nor does it disclose how much the portfolio allocates to each asset class.

For the five years ended June 30, the endowment returned an annualized 10.2%, and for 10 years, 6%.
