Daniel E. Feder will join University of Michigan's investment office as managing director of investments, effective Oct. 2.
Mr. Feder will head the team managing the $2.8 billion private equity/venture capital portfolio of the university's $11 billion long-term endowment, said Lauren Thorne, a spokeswoman.
Mr. Feder replaces Joan M. Thowsen, who is leaving UM's investment office. Her plans could not be learned.
Previously, Mr. Feder was managing director of private markets for the $7.5 billion endowment of Washington University, St. Louis. Julie Hail Flory, a Washington University spokeswoman, did not return an email seeking information about Mr. Feder's replacement.
