Hedge fund manager Kenneth C. Griffin will receive the 2017 Navy SEAL Foundation Patriot Award at a fundraiser in Chicago on Sept. 27.
Mr. Griffin, founder and CEO of Chicago-based Citadel LLC, is an active philanthropist and has been "a generous champion of the Navy SEAL Foundation and those they serve," said William Strong, chairman of the event, in a news release from the Virginia Beach, Va.-based foundation.
"The Patriot Award recognizes Ken's commitment to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families and his commitment to our nation," Mr. Strong added.
No stranger to public discourse, Mr. Griffin and retired Gen. David H. Petraeus will share a stage and interview each other about world events during the gala, confirmed Zia Ahmed, a Citadel spokesman, in an email.
"I am deeply honored to receive this award," Mr. Griffin said in the release. "The Navy SEALs represent the best of America — dedication, teamwork and sacrifice. They put themselves in harm's way every day to protect our nation and our values."
Assets of the Navy SEALS foundation totaled $55 million as of Dec. 31.
Citadel manages $26 billion in hedge funds.
