Jerry Albright, the new chief investment officer of the Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin, named the executives who will assist him in managing the $139.7 billion fund.
Mr. Albright succeeded T. Britton Harris III as the Texas Teacher CIO on Aug. 1 after Mr. Harris assumed the role of president, CEO and CIO of the University of Texas Investment Management Co., Austin, which manages $39.4 billion in assets from UT and Texas A&M.
Mr. Albright, who had been deputy chief investment officer, selected Jase Auby to fill that role. In his new position, Mr. Auby has oversight responsibility for the fund's public and private market investments, confirmed Juliana Fernandez Helton, a TRS spokeswoman, in an email.
Mr. Auby previously was managing director and chief risk officer. James Nield, previously a senior director and the deputy chief risk officer, replaced Mr. Jase.
TRS consolidated its internal and external global public market investment teams and named Dale West head of global public markets. He was senior managing director for external public markets, Ms. Helton said. Chi Kit Chai, senior managing director, who has left TRS, previously held the position of head of the fund's internal public markets portfolio. His future plans could not be learned.
Eric Lang remains in his position as senior managing director of TRS' external private markets team.
Sylvia Bell was named chief operating officer, a new that consolidates operational functions within the TRS investment unit, said Ms. Helton. Ms. Bell was managing director of investment operations and remains the head of TRS' emerging manager program.
