Money manager M&A healthy so far in 2017

2017 has been an active year for mergers and acquisitions in the money management industry. Through Aug. 31, 47 deals have been completed, the bulk of which were acquisitions.

Standard Life's merger with Aberdeen Asset Management was one of the year's more notable deals as the merger of the two firms created $853 billion Aberdeen Standard Life Investments. The most recent activity was Blackstone's acquisition of natural gas investor Harvest Fund Advisors.

There were 50 and 52 deals closed in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
