Mark Hui, a Hong Kong-based vice president with State Street Global Advisors, was named head of global equity beta solutions for Asia ex-Japan.
Mr. Hui replaces David Chai, who left the firm a few months ago, an SSGA spokeswoman said. Mr. Chai couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Mr. Hui previously served as senior portfolio manager, responsible for indexing investment management in Asia ex-Japan. Mr. Hui will maintain those responsibilities while the firm moves to hire an additional portfolio manager for the global equity beta solutions team, the spokeswoman said.
Mr. Hui will report to Susan A. Darroch, SSGA's Sydney-based head of global equity beta solutions for Asia-Pacific ex-Japan.
SSGA's 70-member global equity beta solutions team managed $1.53 trillion in passive equity portfolios for institutional clients as of June 30, a news release said.
