Venture capital firms waiting for their UBER payout

To date, $18.8 billion has been invested in Uber Technologies Inc., $16.1 billion of which has come from various venture capital firms and other institutional investors. The bulk of the outside investment came during the later stages of the company's growth, including a $5.6 billion outlay from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

Only three venture capital firms invested in the company's seed round in October 2010, with the overall majority of seed capital coming from individual angel investors.

It is almost seven years since the company began accepting outside investment and investors have yet to realize any tangible value from their investments, which should be substantial if the company were to go public.
