Melanie Whinnery was named executive director of the $56.2 billion New York City Employees' Retirement System, one of five pension funds in the $170.6 billion New York City Retirement Systems, said a spokeswoman for the New York City Department of Finance.
Ms. Whinnery starts Sept. 5 and replaces Diane D'Alessandro, who retired at the end of 2016. Karen Mazza, deputy executive director, had been filling in as interim executive director.
Currently, Ms. Whinnery is the deputy comptroller for the New York State and Local Retirement Systems, Albany, whose investments are managed by the $192 billion New York State Common Retirement Fund.
