Alex Popov joined Carlyle Group as a managing director, leading the alternative investment firm's credit opportunities business within its global credit division, spokesman Randall Whitestone said in an email.
It is a new position. Mr. Popov, who is based in New York, started Monday and will help Carlyle expand into the opportunistic credit sector.
Mr. Popov was a managing director at alternative investment firm HPS Investment Partners, formerly known as Highbridge Principal Strategies, before it spun off from J.P. Morgan Asset Management in March 2016.
