Member of Parliament David Gauke was appointed secretary of state for work and pensions as U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May unveiled a new Cabinet Sunday.
Ms. May announced a number of ministerial changes in her Cabinet following the general election June 8, when the Conservative Party failed to win majority and was cornered into a coalition with the Democratic Unionist Party.
Mr. Gauke replaces Damian Green, who took over as the first secretary of state and minister for the Cabinet Office.
The secretary of state for the department for work and pensions is responsible for departmental expenditure and management, as well as administration of the state pension and working age benefits system.
Mr. Gauke previously served as chief secretary to the U.K. Treasury since July 2016.
