Easy market access with ETFs

Both the number of U.S.-listed ETFs offered and assets under management reached new heights in the first quarter. In its monthly review, ETFGI found that 1,734 ETFs were available in market, growing by 164 funds since the end of 2015 and nearly doubling since the end of 2010. Assets were approximately $2.7 trillion as of March 31, up from $2.1 trillion at the end of 2015 and $893 billion at the end of 2010.

BlackRock’s iShares leads the market with $1.1 trillion in ETF assets, or 39% of total market share. Vanguard is the second-largest ETF manager with $681 billion in ETF assets under management.

U.S. equity is the dominant asset class, with 46% of the market.
