Alexander Acosta was confirmed as secretary of labor by the Senate late Thursday, in a 60-38 vote.
Mr. Acosta's confirmation completes President Donald Trump's cabinet, as his first 100 days in office come to an end. Mr. Acosta was nominated by Mr. Trump in February after the president's first pick, Andrew Puzder, withdrew. Nine Democrats and one independent supported Mr. Acosta in the vote.
Kenneth E. Bentsen Jr., president and CEO of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, congratulated Mr. Acosta on his confirmation, and urged him in a statement to “take immediate action to further delay implementation” of the Labor Department's fiduciary duty rule at least 180 days beyond the June 9 applicability date.
