Bipartisan legislation that would allow public-sector workers to receive full Social Security benefits was introduced Wednesday in the Senate by Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Susan Collins, R-Maine.
Current Social Security law prohibits more than two million workers from receiving full benefits when they receive other government pensions, and the proposed legislation would eliminate those provisions.
Ms. Collins said in a statement that existing provisions “have enormous financial implications for many federal, state and local employees.”
