Alec Stais was named chief investment officer for Rhode Island's general treasurer's office, said an internal memo to employees by Treasurer Seth Magaziner provided to Pensions & Investments.
Effective May 1, he replaces acting CIO Tim Nguyen, who has accepted a job opportunity in the private sector. Mr. Nguyen assumed the role of interim CIO to after Anne-Marie Fink left July 14 to become managing director and CIO of Matheys Lane Capital Management, a multifamily office in Providence.
Part of Mr. Stais' responsibilities include overseeing the $7.8 billion Rhode Island Employees' Retirement System, Providence. He will report to Mr. Magaziner.
Mr. Stais was a managing director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. It could not be learned by press time if he was replaced; GSAM spokesman Andrew Williams could not be immediately reached for comment.
