Gregory Hall will join PIMCO as managing director, head of private strategies, effective May 1, spokesman Michael Reid said in an e-mail.
Mr. Hall will take over some of the responsibilities previously held by Jennifer Bridwell, managing director and head of alternative products, who has left the company, Mr. Reid said.
Mr. Hall will split his time between Pacific Investment Management Co.'s corporate headquarters in Newport Beach, Calif., and the firm's New York office.
Mr. Hall was a senior managing director at Blackstone Alternative Asset Management, where he was co-head of the hedge fund seeding and ownership stake strategies with Scott Soussa.
Mr. Soussa assumed sole oversight as head of the strategies upon Mr. Hall's departure.
PIMCO had $1.47 trillion in assets under management as of Dec. 31.
