Peter Baird was named managing principal for Investec Asset Management's Africa private equity funds.
Whether the position is new could not be learned by press time.
The $114 billion money manager started investing in African private equity almost 10 years ago, aiming to support the creation of local and regional champions in their respective industries, said a news release. The team, which manages two strategies, forms part of Investec Asset Management's Africa private markets platform, which covers unlisted credit and infrastructure.
“While we are a global investment firm, our heritage and presence in Africa means that we are not only well placed to share our investment insights with clients, but committed to the long-term future of the continent,” said Domenico Ferrini, co-chief investment officer, in the release.
Mr. Baird was previously head of Africa private equity at Standard Chartered Bank.
Spokesmen for Investec and Standard Chartered could not immediately be reached for comment.
