Matthew Beesley joins GAM as head of equities on March 6, said a spokeswoman.
The position is new. Mr. Beesley will focus on performance and risk management, working closely with sales, marketing and operations teams. He will report to group CEO Alexander Friedman.
GAM had 119.1 billion Swiss francs ($118.7 billion) in assets under management as of Sept. 30.
Mr. Beesley will join from Henderson Global Investors where he was head of global equities. A spokesman for Henderson said Mr. Beesley's role was eliminated due to a restructuring after the firm's merger with Janus Capital Group, announced in October 2016. “A number of (his) team management responsibilities have been given to Alex Crooke, head of global equity income,” he added.
