Vijay Advani was named president and chief operating officer at TIAA Global Asset Management, a spokesman said.
The position is new. Mr. Advani will start Jan. 9 and will help to devise and drive the firm's strategy. He will also lead global distribution, and data and analytics initiatives for portfolio management and product development. He will report to CEO Rob Leary.
Mr. Advani was co-president at Franklin Templeton Investments. He will not be replaced; co-president Jennifer M. Johnson will continue as the sole president, said Franklin Templeton spokeswoman Pholida Barclay.
TIAA Global Asset Management had $915 billion in assets under management as of Sept. 30.
