Tim Donohue was named chief investment officer at Columbia Investment Management Co., confirmed Robert Hornsby, a spokesman for the New York-based university.
He replaces Peter Holland, who was promoted to president and CEO of Columbia IMC in October after Nirmal P. Narvekar left the position to become president and CEO of Harvard Management Co., which manages the $35.7 billion endowment of Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.
Mr. Donohue will oversee investment strategy for the university's $9 billion endowment. He will report to Mr. Holland.
Mr. Donohue was a managing director at Columbia IMC. He has not yet been replaced.
