Missouri State Employees' Retirement System, Jefferson City, hired Albert Slawsky as board asset consultant, said Candy Smith, pension fund spokeswoman, in an e-mail.
The $8 billion pension fund issued an RFP in July for a consultant to “help ensure the board is able to make informed investment decisions,” Ms. Smith said. The search was open to both firms and individuals.
Mr. Slawsky was a senior vice president at M.D. Sass Investor Services from 1995 to 2015, Ms. Smith said.
Among the duties of board asset consultant are to educate the board in understanding recommendations by investment staff and its investment consultant Summit Strategies Group, as well as knowing which questions to ask of staff and Summit and identifying the information and analysis it needs from investment staff.
Ms. Smith would not provide finalist information. Investment consultant Summit Strategies Group continues to advise staff on issues relating to investments, such as the selection and termination of money managers.
