David McCormick, president of money manager Bridgewater Associates, was presented with the Quiet Professional Award by the Green Beret Foundation in a New York ceremony on Nov. 16.
The foundation, which provides direct financial assistance to injured members of the U.S. Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, presented the award to recognize Mr. McCormick for his dedication to the military and positive impact on the country after his service.
A West Point graduate who served with the 82nd Airborne during the Gulf War, Mr. McCormick actively works to increase awareness of veterans issues, sitting on boards of organizations including the USO. He is the first non-Green Beret to receive the award.
“Quiet Professional comes from the Green Beret mantra that they're quiet professionals, sort of behind the scenes doing this incredibly dangerous and important mission,” Mr. McCormick said in a telephone interview.
The foundation was founded in 2009 as a response to a lack of support specific to Special Forces veterans. The foundation has been “quite a boost to the Special Forces community,” Mr. McCormick said. “It's quite a tight community.”
