Adena Friedman was named CEO of Nasdaq, effective Jan. 1, said a spokesman.
She replaces Bob Greifeld, who is stepping down as CEO after nearly 14 years. He will become chairman of the board.
Current chairman Borge Ekholm will become president and CEO of Ericsson, starting Jan. 16. He will remain on the Nasdaq board of directors.
Ms. Friedman joined Nasdaq in 1993, filling roles such as head of data products, head of strategy and chief financial officer. She was named president in 2014 and took on the additional role of chief operating officer in 2015. She will retain the president title and join the board of directors. No one has been named chief operating officer.
