There's just no stopping Christopher Solarz from running his way to a Guinness World Record.
He shattered the previous time for Fastest Half Marathon Pushing a Double Running Stroller by eight minutes and 29 seconds with a time of 1:18:08 in the Catholic Health Services Suffolk County (New York) Marathon on Oct. 30.
Mr. Solarz placed fourth in the race overall, beating more than 1,000 other runners who weren't pushing a stroller full of 51 pounds of toddlers.
This is Mr. Solarz's eighth Guinness record.
Running is in Mr. Solarz's soul. He usually runs twice a day and logs more than 100 miles a week. His seven other records also involved unusual running feats, including the quickest traverse of the New York subway system on foot and a non-stop 12-hour stint on a treadmill.
Mr. Solarz has a busy day job as managing director and global macro specialist in the New York office of hedge fund consultant Cliffwater LLC. Now that he has three young children, the double running stroller allows this dad to train and take 4-year-old Sebastien and 2-year-old Sophie on adventures in Central Park. (At 3 months, Genevieve is too little for stroller travel.)
In observance of Halloween, Sebastien, his sister and his dad wore matching Superman costumes for the 13.1-mile race, which elicited applause and hurrahs from other runners and race spectators. Sophie slept during most of the race, but Sebastien was “excitedly cheering back at everyone who was cheering for us,” his father said.
