Active money manager RWC Partners entered into an advisory relationship with emerging markets-oriented strategic consulting firm RiceHadleyGates LLC, which is led by four former U.S. government officials.
RiceHadleyGates is led by former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, former National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley and former State Department official Anja Manuel.
The relationship has been established through RWC's emerging and frontier markets team, which is led by John Malloy and James Johnstone. The 17-member emerging and frontier markets team joined RWC from Everest Capital in July 2015. That team had a long-standing relationship with RHG, which will provide strategic input on political and structural market developments.
The emerging and frontier markets team manages more than $2 billion in assets.
Dan Mannix, CEO of RWC Partners, said in an interview that a lot of the decision to continue the relationship with RHG "comes down to understanding that investment organizations have to invest in their processes — that really is at the heart of it." He said it is important that the firm makes commitments to resources and development of its investment teams. RWC Partners has $10.5 billion in assets under management.
"RiceHadleyGates offer unique insights into the geopolitical environment across our investment universe," said Mr. Malloy in a news release Monday. In order to invest in these markets, the firm needs "a deep understanding of not only the companies in which we invest, but also of the political challenges, risks and opportunities they face. We are extremely fortunate to have developed a strong relationship with RHG over the last few years and are pleased to be able to continue this at RWC."
