Emily Chew joined Manulife Asset Management in Hong Kong as the firm's global head of environmental, social and corporate governance research and integration.
The position is a new one at Manulife, which became a signatory to the United Nations-sponsored Principles for Responsible Investment last year, said a spokeswoman for the Toronto-based firm.
Ms. Chew will report to Peter Mennie, London-based senior managing director and global head of investment risk and quantitative analytics.
In a news release Tuesday, Mr. Mennie said Ms. Chew will lead Manulife's ESG strategy, including its research efforts globally, and its engagement with companies and clients alike on ESG issues.
Ms. Chew comes to Manulife from MSCI, where she served as head of ESG research for the Asia-Pacific region.
Chia Chin Ping, a Hong Kong-based managing director and head of Asia-Pacific research with MSCI, said a search is underway to fill the position.
