University of Pennsylvania's endowment returned -1.4% for the fiscal year ended June 30, said Amanda Mott, spokeswoman for the Philadelphia-based school.
The fiscal-year return outperformed the benchmark by 1 percentage point. Endowment assets totaled $10.7 billion as of June 30, up 6% from the year before.
Negative performance from global public equity investments was partially offset by strong performance in private equity, real estate and fixed income. The university does not break out returns by individual asset class, nor does it disclose how much the portfolio allocates to each asset class.
For the five years ended June 30, the endowment returned an annualized 7.7%, and for 10 years, 6.5%.
